Is Stronghold 4 Worth Wishlisting Before Launch?
Last checked: 2026-10-28
An honest pre-launch answer built only on verifiable facts: what is confirmed, what is not, and the one free test that settles it.
The short answer
Wishlist costs nothing and gets you the launch notification — the real question is pre-order vs wait, and there is a free way to decide: the demo.
What is confirmed good
- 250,000+ wishlists in 17 days after reveal (Game World Observer, 24 Jun 2026) — the first numbered sequel in 15 years, and the audience showed up.
- A free playable demo covering an economic mission, a siege-defence mission, Free Build and (since 19 Oct) Skirmish Mode.
- 22-mission cinematic campaign at Early Access launch, with original music from series composer Robert L. Euvino.
- The studio's stated focus: "return to the green roots" of the 2001 original — the formula fans have been asking to get back to.
What you are honestly signing up for
- It is Early Access — online multiplayer, the economic campaign and co-op trail come later, not on 7 December.
- The series' 3D track record is bumpy: Stronghold 2 (2005) launched buggy and needed six months of patches to become stable (documented series history).
- Demo community reports flag rough AI edges (attackers bashing towers instead of gates, archer focus-fire quirks) — normal for a pre-release build, but real.
Our position
We don't tell you to buy. We tell you this: play the free demo (it is on the Steam page, takes under an hour), read our mission walkthroughs, and check the Early Access scope page so you know exactly what 7 December does and does not include.
